Electronics Technology Assistant Professor
American River College is a public community college serving over 30,000 students in suburban Sacramento County and granting associate degrees and professional certificates. Primary assignment includes teaching courses in new and emerging technologies in communication, digital, electro-mechanical, and energy systems. The teaching assignment may also include, but is not limited to, courses in electronic fundamentals, mathematics for electronics, robotics, communications, solar-photovoltaics, analog electronics, digital electronics, microcontroller, PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) and surface mount soldering, mechtronics, fiber optics, telecommunications and complex electronic systems. The instructor will also be responsible for creating and updating curriculum and maintaining and updating laboratory assignments. The assignment also includes developing new courses and updating existing courses to cover new and emerging technologies and respond to industry needs.
Teaching assignment may include day, evening, on-line, hybrid, weekend, and/or off campus classes.
Additional Position Summary:
The faculty member shall be required to work with industry and professional associations to ensure our curriculum meets the needs of industry and the community. The incumbent is also required to work with schools and universities to promote articulation and ensure student success.
The department maintains a focus on new innovative teaching strategies including distance education. In addition, the faculty member will attend technical training, workshops and conferences then apply the knowledge in the classroom.
The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in his/her regular teaching field; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty as outlined in the college faculty handbook.
1. Have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, completed by January 15, 2015, AND two years of experience in a related field; OR, an associate's degree AND six years of related experience; OR, the equivalent.* OR, hold a California Community College Instructor's Credential in the discipline area.
2. Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles.
*Note: Applicants applying under the "equivalent provision" must attach details and explain how their academic preparation is the equivalent of the degrees listed above.

Management/Executive positions are exempt from overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Additional Salary Information:
Entering annual salary within a given range varies, depending upon units and degrees completed at accredited colleges/universities and on verified experience. Additional earnings may be available for summer, overloads, and stipends.
