Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Admissions/Recruitment Services, the position shares
pre-collegiate, recruitment and enrollment responsibilities with other members of the Office of Admissions. The position's primary responsibilities are to provide pre-college support, customer service, general admissions counseling, and educational planning advice to prospective students in selected high school settings. The position is responsible for designing activities, presentations, workshops, and events for high school populations related to pipeline, outreach, and recruitment efforts. The position performs its duties in selected high schools, community/college fairs, as well as in the Office of Admissions.
Extensive communication is required with the admissions processing personnel to facilitate application and transcript processing. Regular interaction is maintained with staff in the following departments; Registrar, Advising, Center for Individualized Learning, Business Services, Campus Recreation, Career Services, Cashiers Office, College Communications, Cooperative Education Program, Academic Affairs, Financial Aid, Honors Program, Intercollegiate Athletics, Orientation, Student Accounts, Student Development Center, Student Life, Summer Bridge, Transfer Center, Women's Center and the Writing Center.
This position interacts daily with all staff in Excel High Schools. External contacts include extensive communication with the general public, new and prospective students in high school, GED sites, community colleges, international students, high school guidance counselors, parents and school district representatives. This position also has regular interaction with High School Upward Bound, Metro alumni, catering services, other venders and various community organizations/agencies. This position also works closely with AHEC conference planning, Colorado admissions recruiters, members of the Colorado Council on High School/College Relations, Colorado Educational Services and Development Association, and Educational Opportunity Center.
The objective is to help students reach their educational goals, in addition to supporting the enrollment goals of the institution by providing pre-collegiate activities to prospective students, parents and high school counselors in targeted high schools.
20% - Prepares and delivers college preparation presentations, workshops, activities, and events in Excel high schools to prospective students, parents and other interested groups, with an emphasis on diverse, underrepresented groups, including students of color.
20% - Provides in-high school admissions counseling and educational planning to prospective students. Activities include but are not limited to, academic planning, admissions application process, college essay and resume writing, financial aid and scholarship application processes, and goal setting.
15% - Assists with program coordination, with an emphasis on serving diverse, underrepresented students, including students of color; helps train and supervise Excel interns and ambassadors; utilizes statistical data for program evaluation and planning.
15% - Plans and coordinates on-campus visitation events and tours for students from Excel high schools.
15% - Provides admissions counseling and academic planning advice to prospective students via telephone, mail, email, or direct in-office communication as they relate to the recruitment effort; assists with recruitment efforts at local high school and community/college fairs.
10% - Conducts file reviews of applicants to evaluate completion of HEAR requirements and make admissions decisions; serves on committees as required.
5% - Other duties as assigned.
