Assistant Professor of Architecture

Tenure-Track Position Starting in Fall 2015

The Department of Art, Architecture + Art History of the University of San Diego invites applications for a full-time tenure track position at the rank of assistant professor to begin September 2015. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

We seek an individual who demonstrates a conceptual grasp of critical issues in modern/ contemporary design, architecture, and cities and who can inspire students with innovative teaching and research. Our architecture students engage in a two-semester faculty-student research project culminating in an undergraduate thesis, and have been accepted to leading graduate schools in architecture and allied fields. The ability to introduce students to the intellectual, critical, and cultural competencies necessary to undertake research in architecture is expected.

The successful candidate will lead architectural design studios, develop lectures/seminars, supervise undergraduate student research, and help advance the discipline with research and publications. Possible specialties may include, but are not limited to: history, theory and criticism of architecture / urban studies / landscape and ecology / sustainable development.

Candidates are expected to have a professional architecture degree (B.Arch or M.Arch) and a Ph.D. degree (ABD will be considered), in addition to demonstrating evidence of teaching excellence and potential for advanced research and scholarship.
