Teach at both graduate and undergraduate levels in electrical/computer engineering. Develop an externally funded research program in the field of expertise, guide graduate and undergraduate students, and publish research results in professional journals. The University of Alabama Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) invites applications for multiple tenure-track faculty positions. The department has research foci in electromechanical systems, embedded systems, and devices/materials. Applicants in all areas will be considered, but one successful applicant will be expected to collaborate closely with research efforts being conducted by the Environmental Institute as an integral part of a College of Engineering focus hire supporting environmental and water resource engineering. We are particularly interested in candidates that can contribute to research efforts including but not limited to:
• Electromechanical devices, including motor/generator design (with potential emphasis on energy scavenging)
• Renewable energy applications (including wind, tidal, and micro-hydro generation)
• Power system analysis, operation, and control
• Power electronics
• Electric and hybrid-electric vehicle technologies
• RF Electronics
• Wireless sensor networks (with potential emphasis on water resource monitoring and control)
• Biomedical signal processing and pattern recognition
• Ambient and wearable embedded systems
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in electrical or computer engineering or a closely related field by the date of appointment. Applicants must show the potential to establish a quality research program, collaborate effectively with other faculty, and excel in teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. For consideration at the Associate Professor level, applicants must demonstrate a strong external funding and publication record commensurate with this level of appointment.
The College of Engineering is experiencing unparalleled growth and prosperity, having completed a four building Engineering and Science Quad in the summer of 2013. The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is benefiting significantly from such growth and currently serves almost 600 undergraduate and graduate students. The department offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees, with ABET-accredited programs in both electrical engineering and computer engineering.
