Detailed Job Description

Teaches lower- and upper-division statistics and biostatistics courses. Applicants should have an engaging and effective teaching style and are expected to teach an average of twelve credit hours per semester. Along with pursuing scholarly activities, the candidate is also required to serve as a consulting statistician for the Office of Academic Research Support to facilitate statistical data analysis for other professors and students of the university. Candidates must have a doctoral degree with specialization in biostatistics or similar fields. Candidates with enthusiasm in promoting undergraduate research will be preferred. The main campus of Utah Valley University is located in Orem, Utah. The university is a rapidly growing institution which primarily emphasizes undergraduate education.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation with a doctorate from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Normally will have produced creative work, professional writing or research in refereed and other professional journals. Must have experience assessing student learning capabilities and learning styles and understand how to develop curriculum of assigned courses.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a Ph.D. in biostatistics or similar fields.


Knowledge of statistics and biostatistics and their application.


Interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Demonstrates the skills to evaluate student performance.


Ability to communicate verbally and in writing and publish and/or present scholarly research. Ability to use online learning tools and mechanisms. Ability to develop, coordinate, manage and foster teamwork among diverse education and training programs. Ability to function effectively on a variety of committees and assignments that serve the needs of the University. Ability to interact personally with students and other faculty members in a congenial and productive manner.
