Detailed Job Description

The digital designer will work with the Media Group team to help better articulate the RISD story across multiple online properties. These include the institution's main website as well as campaign based microsites, blogging platforms, and other methods of digital distribution of media and commmunication to the school's various constituencies.

We are looking for an enthusiastic collaborator and voracious maker who is passionate about the typographic minutiae of the web. Semantic markup, CSS compilers, responsive grid frameworks, rich forms, API integration and an intelligent use of dynamic content are all things that we are wanting to better utilize in order to improve our storytelling. It is our hope that the digital designer will be an ambassador to the rest of the design team to the new edges of the web, and to help us make good decisions about how we best engage with those territories.

Our group is an exciting moment of transition and we will be looking to partner with the digital designer in creating a system of best practices to help elevate RISD's web presence.  


Bachelor's degree in graphic design or related field.

2 - 4 years of increasingly challenging experience in web design.

Direct experience in website design and production utilizing the latest advancements in HTML/CSS and jQuery.

Direct experience sharing HTML/CSS and jQuery assets through GitHub or other version control repositories.

Computer literacy required, with proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign.

Self motivated learner who can determine new skills that need to be learned and follow through on learning those skills.

Strong collaboration capabilities.

Strong research capabilities.
