Detailed Job Description

Responsible for planning, assigning, and supervising the day to day activities of and schedule for the museum safety and security and custodial departments. Train, supervise, schedule and provide input to the hiring and initiate documentation for the professional development of Museum Security Officers, Lead Guards, and Central Control Operators in accordance with policies, procedures, and/or bargaining unit agreements, as appropriate, to meet operational and strategic goals. Update and maintain records and logs. Inspect and test museum safety, security, and control systems.  


Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. Five years of progressively responsible security operations experience required, in a museum environment preferred. Previous experience supervising staff required. Knowledge and understanding of access control, alarm, and video surveillance systems and museum security operations and fire standards required. Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact positively and effectively in a culturally diverse setting. Ability to maintain composure and respond quickly to alarms, events, and emergencies requiring security involvement. Computer experience. Ability to generate reports, analyze metrics and present findings in a compelling manner. Ability to pass and maintain TSA security threat assessment and required training and become a vetted employee under the TSA Certified Cargo Screening Program required. Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid, AED, and CPR certifications.
