Elementary Generalist K-6 for the Multiple Abilities Dual-Certification Program

Position: Assistant Professor of Elementary Education K-6 Generalist (Tenure-Track)

The Department of Special Education and Multiple Abilities at the University of Alabama is seeking applications for a tenure-track position to serve as a core faculty member in the Multiple Abilities Program at the Assistant Professor level. MAP is an innovative, integrated preservice teacher preparation program preparing students for K-6 certification in both general and special elementary education. The person in this position will serve as the content generalist teaching pedagogy and content area methods.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in elementary education,
    educational psychology, or closely related
    field
  • Minimum 3 years full-time K-6 general
    education classroom teaching experience
  • Ability to pursue a research agenda and
    external funding with evidence of scholarly
    potential
  • Ability to teach courses in K-6 methods of
    teaching and assessing mathematics and
    science
  • Ability to teach courses in general
    elementary education
  • Ability to integrate technology into
    instruction including web-assisted and other
    alternative delivery models
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity
  • Demonstrated success working in
    collaborative settings

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Both elementary general and special
    education teaching certification
  • Ability to teach methods of teaching and
    assessing social studies and music in
    addition to the required content subjects
    mathematics and science.
  • Experience teaching special education and/or
    working with special education teachers
  • Experience with diverse school contexts
