This position will provide an early stage investigator with the unique opportunity to perform innovative research and strengthen skills in: understanding and addressing social determinants of health and health disparities. The fellowship especially highlights community-based participatory research (CBPR) as an important approach to study and address health disparities and social inequities. The selected post-doctoral fellow will receive exceptional mentored training with an opportunity to develop research skills and collaborate with a dynamic, federally funded, multi-disciplinary team of investigators. The position is renewable for a second year and possibly a third depending on performance and achievement. The training can be tailored to suit the successful candidate’s requirements with opportunities for teaching, authorship on relevant manuscripts, collaborative grant writing experience, and independent grant submission. There is also support for conference travel and other training experiences.


A minimum of a PhD, DrPH, or ScD degree is required.
It is expected that the person fulfilling this position will increase their capacity to carry out high quality and high impact health disparities research with a particular emphasis on rural populations. It is expected that the individual selected will have:
• Experience in community based or participatory research;
• Excellent qualitative and/or quantitative skills;
• Outstanding skills in written and verbal communication; and,
• Demonstrated record of conducting research with underserved populations and scholarly products from that research.
