Detailed Job Description

The Sales Manager's primary responsibility is to oversee the sales and sales administration of the Press, soliciting and delivering sales for University of Alabama Press titles nationally and internationally and achieving yearly sales goals as established by the Press Director and Marketing Director.

Additional Department Summary:

The Sales Manager will, under supervision of the Director of Sales and Marketing, manage strategic accounts, support market development within those accounts, maximize individual title sales via contact with specialty retail outlets by title or title category; recruit and manage commission rep groups nationally and international distributors; provide sales presentations as needed; report on sales monthly, quarterly, and at year end. The Sales Manager will achieve yearly sales goals as established by the Press Director and Director of Sales and Marketing every fiscal year. To achieve this primary goal the Sales Manager will develop a key account sales strategy that clearly lays out a plan to maximize sales revenue and grow business in all sectors: retail, wholesale, electronic, direct-to-consumer, specialty, and international; monitor sales data and trends to identify sales opportunities and minimize attrition in key accounts; research and supply project-specific sales analysis for individual titles prior to launch and up to book publication; in collaboration with the Director of Sales and Marketing, establish forecasting of yearly sales goals, overall and at key accounts, with specific plans for achieving forecasts; work with database and metadata team to deliver appropriate title metadata to all vendors; and perform other duties as deemed necessary and appropriate to increase book sales nationally and internationally.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:

Valid U.S. driver's license required. Must be at least 21 years of age and have an acceptable motor vehicle report as determined by the insurance carrier. Skills and Knowledge:A proven command of technological literacy, including not just computer use but also database management, the use of social media, and familiarity with the concept of metadata management. Superior organizational and project management skills, including an ability to plan for and manage multiple priorities. Strong communication (oral and written) skills. Energy and persistence. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with a broad range of people. Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in humanities or social sciences, marketing, public relations, publishing, English, journalism, communications or in a relevant pre-professional program (business, communications, journalism, or law) and 2 years of marketing and sales experience in book publishing, preferably with a university press, or in a closely allied field such as sales, information science, technology, or higher education development. A genuine interest in the publishing program of the Press. 57 Monthly (exempt): - Minimum - $ 31969.56 Midpoint - $ 46342.44
