Responsible for assisting in the management, administration, and coordination of activities and staff of the Writing Center. Implements Writing Fellows, the Graduate Writing Center, and Faculty Writing through direct reports. Serves as a member of the Writing Center’s management team, as determined the Writing Center Director. Participates in strategic planning, staffing decisions, and other key areas. Assists in developing and maintaining partnerships between the Writing Center and campus departments. Conducts research as appropriate for the Writing Fellows. Budgetary responsibility for the Writing Fellows.
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in directly related field of study or a combination of education and experience totaling four years.
Masters degree preferred. An established scholarly agenda in writing center studies.
Knowledge of and extensive experience in tutoring and modeling effective tutoring.
Knowledge of and extensive experience in working with graduate and scholarly level writing in both humanities and social science disciplines.
Knowledge and familiarity with stylistic conventions in major documentation formats such as MLA, APA, and Turabian.
Skill in effective interpersonal communication and collaboration to collaborate with stakeholders across the university and interact with people of diverse backgrounds, particularly among faculty.
Ability to identify program needs and to utilize available resources.
Ability to be self-directed and implement policies as necessary.
Ability to manage, revise, and edit extended writing projects such as master’s level papers and theses, grants, proposals, and research bibliographies.
This position is an in house position. An individual who meets at least one of the following criteria may apply for this position as an in-house applicant:
-Adjunct faculty status for at least two full semesters immediately prior to the position’s opening date, OR
-Non-Student Part-time hourly employee hired through the official University screening process, or informal hiring process employed a minimum of 6 consecutive months, working at least an average of 20 hours per week, immediately prior to the position’s opening date, OR
-Salaried employee employed a minimum of 6 consecutive months, working at least an average of 40 hours per week, immediately prior to the position’s opening date.
