Assists the director of academic advising in all aspects of the advising and registration processes for all undergraduate students. Collaborates with other administrators, faculty chairs, and faculty advisors in support of student success.
1.Advises all undergraduate students as appropriate including but not limited to: students in academic difficulty (e.g., students on academic probation or warning, including the completion of probation contracts and academic improvement plans), students wishing to withdraw or take leaves of absence, students with questions about academic policies and requirements, and students wanting to discuss a change of major or other academic plan changes or additions.
2.Collaborates as a member of the advising team with other colleagues, administrators, faculty chairs, and faculty advisors in support of student success. May participate in business process planning and review and system implementations in support of campus student success initiatives.
3.Works with faculty chairs, faculty advisors, administrators and staff on resolution of student issues.
4.Coordinates all facets of student placement testing, including supervising part –time employee proctors, scheduling testing sessions, planning and running orientation placement testing and working with Salem State University staff and faculty where necessary to support the efficient processing of placement results. May work with staff at partner community colleges on transfer of placement testing results for incoming transfer students.
5.Develops pertinent information/material for students on a regular basis, including orientation programing.
6.Assists in the preparation of data, reports, and recommendations related to responsibilities within the Center.
7.Assists with educating students and faculty regarding use of degree tracker/general education core. May assist with faculty and staff training on various issues related to undergraduate academic advising.
8.Assists the firector of academic advising to assure quality and accurate service.
9.Serves on committees as assigned by the assistant dean of CAE and/or the director of academic advising.
10.Performs other related tasks as assigned by the director of academic advising.
11.Demonstrates sensitivity to students, faculty and staff of varying racial, ethnic, religious, gender, cultural, disability, sexual orientation and socioeconomic backgrounds.
12.Serves as a mentor for students towards development of their communication skills necessary for navigating the collegiate environment, strategies for personal goal setting, self-advocacy, and successful learning.
1.Bacccalaureate degree required
2.Minimum two years of advising experience in a higher education setting
3.Knowledge of higher education principles, practices and procedures
4.Knowledge of teaching techniques and methods of college organization
5.Knowledge of contemporary sociological, psychological and academic problems faced by students
6.Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing
7.Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle competing priorities
8.Experience using the Microsoft Office Suite
9.Knowledge of demonstrable experience in all facets of the position as described in the duties of the job description.
1.Master's degree preferably in advising or counseling
2.Prior experience using PeopleSoft, Canvas and OnBase
