Maintains equipment and facilities of the Biology lab. Processes various biology specimens for use as lab samples. Maintains laboratory documents and keeps detailed logs of all work-related activities according to laboratory protocols. Maintains an accurate inventory of specimens, chemicals, and supplies for experimentation. Cleans, maintains, and prepares supplies and raw materials for work areas. Sets up, calibrates, cleans, maintains, and repairs laboratory and field equipment. Measures or weigh compounds and solutions for use in testing or animal feed. Isolates, identifies, and/or prepares specimens for examination. Conducts standardized biological, microbiological or biochemical tests and laboratory analyses to evaluate the quantity or quality of physical or chemical substances in food or other products.
High school diploma or equivalent plus six months experience working in a laboratory handling, maintaining, and repairing lab equipment and materials used in experimentation.
Bachelor’s degree in a science related discipline. A year of experience working in a full service laboratory is preferred.
Knowledge of standard laboratory housekeeping protocols.
Skill in the use and maintenance of various types of lab equipment and work stations.
Ability to repair and maintain various types of lab equipment.
Ability to store and handle various types of specimens, chemicals, and supplies for use during experimentation.
