Detailed Job Description

Faculty member at the rank of professor or associate professor experienced in teaching at the master's and doctoral levels in a School of Social Work with demonstrated record of research and teaching. Academic duties include teaching, academic advising, contributions to research and social work scholarship, further development of the doctoral program and service to the school, university, and community. Position subject to availability of funding.

Teaching assignments will include a combination of courses in practice, research, and elective opportunities in the master’s and newly proposed doctoral program, depending upon the interests of the candidate and needs of the programs. An active scholarship agenda is critical as is creativity and energy for participation in developing a doctoral program. Duties will also include advising of students, faculty mentoring, and serving on doctoral committees. Work collaboratively with faculty, in a school with new leadership and a collective focus on academic excellence, success of our students and faculty development.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in social work or closely related field
  • Minimum of 5 years in social work education
  • MSW from a CSWE-accredited program
  • Minimum of three (3) years of post-MSW practice experience
  • Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service, with preference for integrated health care focus
  • A commitment to and interest in faculty mentoring  
  • Passion for teaching diverse students and contributing to their academic success and furthering the mission of a public university


Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 8-10 years of full-time teaching experience at an accredited four-year college or university in the field of social work
  • Expertise in agency or community-based research
  • Demonstrated track record of grant writing and funding
  • Demonstrated ability to teach theory and social work practice
  • Experience in online or hybrid teaching
