Detailed Job Description

This full time faculty member will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in elementary education; advise students;assist with curriculum development and other School of Education initiatives; engaging in a program of scholarly undergraduate and graduate coursework; and provide service to the department and university. Experience teaching in higher education and P-12 teaching is required.

Candidates are required to perform duties in accordance with the MSCA contract. Duties include teaching responsibilities, advising, scholarship and contributions to the development of the department and university. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. The position is subject to available funding.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution in elementary education or a closely related content area such as literacy, and if ABD, will have a doctorate by June 30, 2015.
  2. Record of effective teaching at the college level and at least three years of successful P-12 teaching experience.
  3. Experience with pre-service and/or in-service teacher preparation
  4. Demonstrated ability to teach courses in a variety of delivery formats (face to face on campus, hybrid and online)
  5. Evidence of scholarship or professional impact in the field of literacy
  6. Evidence of a professional commitment to programs that prepare students to teach culturally, linguistically, and academically diverse students with or without disabilities, and on the integration of technology into curriculum and instruction
  7. Thorough knowledge of current issues in education including standards, testing and regulations impacting schools
  8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  9. Commitment to collaboration and collegiality


Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Content and pedagogical knowledge of elementary literacy and foundational content knowledge in elementary education
  2. Demonstrated ability to integrate technology into instruction to enhance student learning and engagement
  3. Experience in assessment and intervention
