Detailed Job Description

This full time faculty member will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in special education; advise students; collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, program governance and other School of Education initiatives; engage in a program of scholarly work; and provide service to their department and the University.

Candidates are required to perform duties in accordance with the MSCA contract. Duties include teaching responsibilities, advising, scholarship and contributions to the development of the department and university. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. The position is subject to available funding.


Required Qualifications:

  1. Earned doctorate or ABD from a regionally accredited institution in special education or related field; and if ABD, will have doctorate by June 30, 2015
  2. Record of effective teaching at the college level and at least three years of successful P-12 teaching experience
  3. Experience with pre-service and/or in-service teacher education
  4. Demonstrated content knowledge and pedagogical skill for working with P-12 students in both inclusive and substantially separate settings
  5. Demonstrated expertise in special education assessment and interventionfor P-12 students who present with complex learning profiles
  6. Demonstrated ability to integrate technology into instruction to enhance student learning and engagement
  7. Scholarly record or professional impact in the field of special education to warrant appointment at the assistant professor level
  8. Evidence of a professional commitment to programs that prepare teachers to teach culturally, linguistically and academically diverse students with and without disabilities and on the integration of technology into curriculum and instruction
  9. Demonstrated excellent verbal and communication skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Expertise in educating children and youth exhibiting social, cognitive and emotional problems, and high-risk behavior
  2. Expertise in the neuroscience of trauma and its educational implications
  3. Demonstrated content and pedagogical knowledge of Special Education and Inclusive practices
  4. Experience with and knowledge of Massachusetts DESE licensing regulations
  5. Demonstrated ability to integrate technology (including AT/AAC)
  6. Experience with working in urban settings
