Job Description:

As part of an Urban Institute Grant, Bunker Hill Community College is looking for two Career Development Counselor/Navigators to collaborate with an Employment Specialist from the Boston Private Industry Council to provide enhanced career navigation services and employment and internship opportunities to a cohort Boston Public High School graduates enrolled at Bunker Hill Community College.  These grant funded positions will research best practices and implement a career counseling program which will include a network of support systems to identify and develop student strengths, develop/clarify educational and career goals and provide appropriate services and referral, to enhance student degree completion and employment opportunities.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Research and implement a career coaching program based on best practices.
  • Provide individual and group career counseling for a cohort of Boston Public School graduates attending Bunker Hill Community College.
  • Maintain direct contact with students on a weekly basis and provide updates via intrusive advising system as needed.
  • Administer and interpret career assessment tools to identify strengths; career interest and work readiness.
  • Compile a profile of each student and assist student in developing a personalized career plan utilizing electronic resources.
  • Assist the Employment Specialist with matching the student with appropriate part-time employment and or internship opportunities.
  • Plan and facilitate career development and job readiness workshops.
  • Explore supporting campus resources and make appropriate referrals; serve as a liaison to other departments and community based agencies.
  • Perform administrative tasks associated with the position, such as the collection, organization and dissemination of statistical data, logs, reports, forms and general correspondence.  Operate a computer and utilize databases, student information systems, word-processing and email; answer student inquiries regarding career coaching related matters via email and telephone.
  • Assist grant coordinators with data collection and assessment.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree preferred) in Education, Counseling, Psychology or a related field; with three (3) years’ experience and/or training involving academic or  career counseling, career/vocational testing/assessment, referrals, employment services or career development transition; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Experience working with students in a student services/client services or equivalent setting.
  • Proficiency in student information systems preferred.
  • Proficiency with technology as well as MS Word and Excel required.
  • Excellent, demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work with a diverse faculty, staff and student population.
  • Ability to work 2 evenings per week (11am – 7pm) and some Saturdays required.

Additional Information

Salary Range:   $47,548.00 - $52,000.00
