Title: General Education Faculty/Advisor

Department: Undergraduate General Education 

JOB OBJECTIVES:  The General Education Faculty and Advisor will develop and teach online and campus-based general education courses within credentialed discipline.  The faculty member will evaluate online and campus-based general education faculty and courses.  The faculty member will academically advise students in general education courses and will assess the effectiveness of the general education program.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED FROM:  General Education Program Director/Director of Online Education




Instructor:  a Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in the disciplines being taught, evidence of ability or promise as an effective teacher and evidence of the ability to do continuing scholarly or creative activity and no experience required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to conduct normal classroom and laboratory courses.  Ability to stand or sit for up to eight (8) hours per day and lift twelve (12) pounds.  Ability to work on a computer for eight (8) hours per day.  Ability to work evening hours.

JOB REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS/ETC.: Marked competence and considerable perspective in his/her respective field of study; ability to proofread and good knowledge of English; good language and grammatical skills; good organization skills; operational and interpretative skills of equipment used in the department, experience in academic course and laboratory design; must demonstrate evidence of steady professional growth and competence in teaching, scholarly or creative activity; good personnel supervisory skills; thorough knowledge of the rules and regulations as associated with courses taught in respective discipline; professional dress and demeanor; professional attitude; willingness to work overtime as needed; positive attitude and willingness to work with faculty and support staff of the University.


Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Be knowledgeable and conversant with the mission and goals of the Parker University,
  • Be knowledgeable with the policies and procedures of the University and be willing to enforce the policies and procedures of the University. To lead by example. To mentor adjunct faculty and students. To be an effective teacher and to show steady professional growth and competency in teaching and scholarly and creative activities.
  • Develop and teach online and campus-based general education courses within credentialed discipline. 
  • Oversee the development of online and campus-based classes.
  • Evaluate online and campus-based general education faculty and courses. 
  • Academically advise students in general education courses
  • Assess the effectiveness of the general education program
  • Keep and maintain the confidentiality of course grades.
  • Determine and arrange course needs (equipment, supplies, appropriate textbooks, etc.).
  • Communicate on a frequent basis with the other members of the team responsible for course delivery.
  • Keep respective course files current and complete.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding faculty, staff and institutional events as may be appropriate.
  • Submit final grades in a timely manner as instructed by the General Education Program Director/Director of Online Education
  • Maintain interest, involvement with, and stay current with the scientific research in their respective instructional disciplines.
  • Teach core factual information and differentiate opinion from fact so the student can make the appropriate distinction.
  • Administer student/faculty evaluation forms to classes as directed by the respective Program Director/Vice President of Online Education.
  • Attend all scheduled or called faculty meetings, committee meetings, graduations or other events as assigned and as appropriate for the University.
  • Follow the appropriate chain of command and communication.
  • Respond in a timely manner to requests for information or reports as may be required by the Program Director/Director Online Education/Associate Provost.
