Detailed Job Description
The American Studies Program seeks a Director to provide academic and administrative leadership for the program. Specific responsibilities include: advising majors and minors; budget oversight; curriculum development and implementation; recruitment and professional development of faculty (including promotion and tenure recommendations); recommendations to the Dean for faculty teaching and workload assignments, and for faculty merit-based salary increases; hiring and supervision of staff; communication of University and College policies and practices to the program; and advocacy of the program to the College, University, and wider communities.
The position requires a Ph.D. and tenure in a department or program in the College of Arts and Science at Miami. Applicants should have teaching and research experience in or related to the field of American Studies, and familiarity with best practices in interdisciplinary education. Evidence of scholarly achievement and teaching excellence is required. Administrative experiences suggesting an ability to lead an academic program are also necessary.
