Detailed Job Description
The Assistant Vice President for Enterprise Operations will provide leadership and be accountable for developing, maintaining, supporting, optimizing and monitoring key functional areas: wired and wireless networking, server and storage infrastructure, data center services and all core services, including databases, middleware and third party tools, as well as diagnosing and resolving hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion.
Implement practices to ensure efficient, stable and secure infrastructure operations for the University.
Work with decision makers in other functional units to identify, recommend, develop, implement and support cost-effective infrastructure solutions to satisfy all Miami University's IT infrastructure needs.
Establish long-term operations planning for key infrastructure components -- voice; data network, data center and client computing ensuring the institution remain a fast follower of emerging technology.
Be accountable for the availability, performance and security of all IT Services' computing environments. Oversees technical Change Management, which is responsible for validating the relevance and integrity of all changes to Miami's production environments.
Implement real-time services monitoring performance and availability of all core services from the customer perspective (outside-in).
Establish goals for the Enterprise Operations unit and ensure they are aligned with the university and IT strategic plans.
Provide consistent and decisive leadership to the Enterprise Operations unit.
Develop and maintain a workforce plan for the Enterprise Operations unit, including identification of required internal/external staffing levels and competencies.
Ensure continuous improvement of Enterprise Operations practices through identification and achievement of required process maturity levels.
Establish appropriate performance metrics for the Enterprise Operations unit and develop strategies to address performance gaps.
Actively promote the organizational core values of Integrity, Respect, Accountability and Continuous Improvement throughout IT Services.
Manage, coach and mentor managers. Deliver timely performance feedback and counsel staff in career/performance development.
Deploy Enterprise Operations unit resources to meet institutional priorities, as identified through the IT governance process.
Sets a positive example of teaming and partnership across senior leaders within IT, Miami University, and vendor partners.
Participate in professional development activities.
A master's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Computer and Information Systems, Business Systems or other similar related area of study earned by date of hire, plus at least 7 years of experience working in an information technology area, or
A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Computer and Information Systems, Business Systems or other similar related area of study earned by date of hire, plus at least 9 years of experience working in an information technology area, or
12 years of experience working in an information technology area
At least five years of experience demonstrating a progression in management experience to the senior level
Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience providing the knowledge/skills/abilities listed above may be substituted. Experience in these knowledge/skills/abilities may be earned concurrently.
Five plus years of experience working with networks; expert ability to recognize network industry processes and standards, and conduct research, roadmap development, strategic planning, architecture storyboarding and installation
Five plus years of experience working with hardware; expert ability to recognize hardware industry processes and standards and conduct research, architecture storyboarding, and installation
Five plus years of experience managing service levels; expert ability to manage agreements between separate teams to provide specific services under specific terms
Extensive experience working with system administration; expert abilities in problem management, installation (fixes), monitor and diagnosis
Advanced ability to develop, maintain and communicate architecture strategy.
Demonstrated ability working with disaster recovery/business continuity planning
Demonstrated ability to develop and execute plans/strategies.
Demonstrated experience with budget planning; advanced ability to conduct a cost benefit analysis, develop a Business Case, and conduct an ROI/TCO analysis
Advanced relationship management skills; proven ability to establish and maintain business and partner relationships
Advanced people management skills; proven ability to establish and maintain team relationships, develop programs to improve professional development, empower team, respond to personal and professional needs and plan user training
Advanced leadership skills; proven ability to face adversity, energize team and stay true to University values
