Detailed Job Description
This professional staff member reports to the Associate Director for Scholarships for all assigned functions and is responsible for interpreting laws, rules, regulations and policies related to student financial aid to ensure consistent compliance with federal, state, and University financial aid regulations. Helps create, enact, and monitor systems which assist the office in complying with all federal, state, and University rules governing student financial aid. Also assists in the coordination and implementation for various scholarship and State grant programs in the Office of Student Financial Assistance.
-Research, review, and work with the Director and Associate Director for Scholarships on federal title IV regulations and compliance.
-Maintains up-to-date knowledge of federal and state guideline revisions.
-Identifies issues relevant to the review and proposal of U.S. Department of Education regulations and the impact on University policies and procedures; works with management to review and update office policies and procedures to reflect changes in regulations; informs and reviews regulatory changes and potential impact with management of affected financial aid programs.
-Schedules, coordinates, implements, and analyzes regular office self-audits.
-Responsible for the coordination of the Quality Assurance Program and verification effort. This includes completion of required federal student aid assessments.
-Responsible for the processing of Choose Ohio First grants.
-Responsible for the processing of the Ohio War Orphans waiver.
-Responsible for the processing of state programs including Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance, Rhode Island Higher Education Assistance, and DC Education Grants.
-Works extensively with the Ohio Board of Regents (OBR) regarding the OCOG program at Miami. This includes producing reports regarding student eligibility, requesting payment from OBR, and monitoring the funds Miami receives from OBOR.
-Responsible for the processing of the Nursing Education Assistance Loan Program (NEALP).
-Assists with the coordination of all scholarship programs and in developing policies and procedures for unit functions and existing and new scholarship programs.
-Creates and runs web focus reports to facilitate scholarship operations.
-Analyzes and resolves conflicting information with students, parents, office staff and University departments for scholarship processes.
-Maintains a basic working knowledge of federal financial aid regulations, eligibility criteria, and University awarding policies.
-Performs counselor duties when needed. Functions as a back-up for other scholarship staff when they are unavailable.
-Performs other duties as assigned
Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience with three years' experience in a financial aid or equivalent office, preferably in the role of counseling students and parents regarding financial aid; strong communication skills, excellent interpersonal, organizational and planning skills, proven customer service skills, and the ability to work cooperatively with others.
Desired qualifications include experience with ad hoc reporting (MS Access and Web FOCUS); experience with the Banner system.
