Detailed Job Description

Assists in the operation of the comprehensive radiation safety program based on state and federal regulations; and assists in laboratory safety and vehicle driver safety.


- Order all licensed radioactive materials.
- Conduct inspections and audits of areas where radioactive materials are used and stored, leak testing and inspecting sealed sources.
- Conduct or assist in radiation safety training and awareness courses
- Distribution and collection of radiation personal dosimeters, determines efficiencies of scintillation counters, coordinates calibration of survey meters.
- Prepares and ships licensed radioactive materials, assists in the disposition of radioactive material and radiation generating equipment.
- Calibrates radiation detection devices
- Maintains Driver training records

Basic Qualifications

A.S. in physics, health physics, environmental health, industrial hygiene, or related field of science. Work experience and/or training in radiation safety principles, concepts and regulations

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor degree in physics, health physics, environmental health, industrial hygiene, or related field of science. Two or more years work experience in radiation safety principles, concepts and regulations and other areas of research safety. Experience with database management and spreadsheet management.
