Detailed Job Description
Miami University is excited to announce its search for the next Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs.
The University serves the citizens of the state of Ohio, as well as a regional and increasingly national constituency. Miami's main campus is in Oxford, 35 miles north of Cincinnati, with two regional campuses in Hamilton and Middletown, the Voice of America Learning Center in West Chester, Ohio, and the Miami University Dolibois European Center in Luxembourg. In its ranking for best undergraduate teaching, U.S. News & World Report consistently lists Miami in the top three among national universities.
With a student body of over 15,000 undergraduate and 2,250 graduate students at its Oxford campus, Miami effectively combines a wide range of strong academic programs with the personal attention ordinarily found only at much smaller institutions. Graduate programs complement and enhance the undergraduate educational experience. The unwavering commitment to teaching and learning is demonstrated in the University's record of exceptional retention and graduation rates, and their consistently strong and engaged alumni community.
The Provost reports to the President and serves as the chief academic officer of the University, working closely with the deans, fellow academic officers, and other members of the President's cabinet. As the academic leader of the campus, with direct responsibility for the University's six academic divisions, two regional campuses, an off-site learning center, the European campus in Luxembourg, the university libraries, and numerous offices, centers, and programs, the Provost will be responsible for enhancing the University's intellectual climate, strengthening instruction and scholarship, fostering curricular innovation, recruiting and mentoring faculty, and promoting campus diversity.
The next Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs will be an experienced administrator capable of leading with innovative vision to enhance the mission of academic excellence at the University. She or he will have demonstrated support for faculty governance and fair, consultative and transparent leadership. She or he will have a positive and entrepreneurial attitude with a willingness to accept and meet challenges.
