Detailed Job Description
Provide accurate and current curricular information for students pursing baccalaureate and associate degrees offered at Miami University; special focus on Miami Regional degrees and programs.
Assist in the planning and implementation of targeted academic advising programs such as: University Studies, Student Veterans, Post-Secondary (PSEOP), Student Athletes, Developmental, and other assigned student populations.
Assist students in developing a plan to improve their academic standing when on Academic Warning, Probation or under terms of Suspension/Dismissal.
Assist with academic petition process for academic actions and transfer credits, as appropriate.
Support the Office of Admission and Financial Aid during campus visit programs by presenting to prospective students and their families.
Utilize career development resources to assist students identify an appropriate major.
Coordinate and participate in academic advising services with the Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration program (SOAR).
Serve as a trainer and resource for faculty and faculty advisors.
Partner with academic advisors across the University to ensure consistent communications with students, faculty, and staff.
Instruct up to three credit hours of student success course work, per-term, as needed.
Utilize advising tools such as DARS, transfer.org, AdvisorTrac and SCT Banner.
Assist in developing individual and departmental long range plans and objectives, based on the needs of the campus.
One evening per week will be required, in addition to some evening programs and weekend hours.
Other duties as assigned by director.
Master's degree in Student Affairs, Counseling or related field upon appointment. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty and staff. Strong computer, interpersonal and collaborative skills.
At least two years of experience, post baccalaureate, in academic advising and/or related student development programs. Experience working with an at-risk and diverse student population.
