Detailed Job Description

The Division of Enrollment Management and Student Success (EMSS) is committed to creating and sustaining a culture of engaged University-wide partnerships to facilitate the design, implementation, and support of strategic and research-based enrollment and retention practices. The newly created Student Success Center will create a seamless and streamlined experience that equips, supports, and empowers students for success. The Student Success Manager (SSM) oversees the operations of the Center and has the responsibility for creating and enhancing support structures that drive student success by leveraging, expanding, and coordinating the Miami community's array of services. The SSM will report directly to the Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Success and will lead a Student Success team.

The Center will serve as the central place for students to find connections to all University resources that are intended to improve their success. In addition, the office will take the lead in proactively engaging with students identified as benefiting from additional interactions. Student satisfaction and increased student success, including increased retention and graduation rates, are University-wide priorities, and as a result, the SSM will need to collaborate and coordinate student services with a multitude of University partners to improve the overall academic and social experiences of students at Miami University and, thereby improve retention and increased graduation rates.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
-Manage a staff of three full-time Student Success staff who will be part of implementing student success initiatives that improve and support student persistence and satisfaction.
-Provide leadership in the oversight of the individualized outreach to students working closely with staff and faculty in the development, enhancement, and coordination of intervention programs and activities to support student success.
-Collaborate and work closely with multiple departments/offices throughout the University, including but not limited to: EMSS, Office of the Provost, Academic Deans, Academic Advising, Division of Students Affairs, Intercollegiate Athletics, and related offices to assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to the support of students to maximize student completion rates.
-Utilize data to manage continuing student enrollment, and work with Enrollment Research and Analysis, academic advising offices and other faculty and staff to maximize the use of data, developing new data as needed, to achieve continuing student success goals.
-Closely coordinate and leverage the One Stop for Student Success Services that provides consolidated, front-facing services of the Bursar, University Registrar and Student Financial Assistance offices.
-Serves as a key member of the Student Success Leadership Team and other committees related to student success and academic progress.
-Develop and maintain reports to track, communicate and measure efforts of the Student Success Center in University-wide retention efforts.
-Manage and continuously improve SSC operations.
-Represent SSC's needs to various constituencies across the University.
-Represent the SSC, and EMSS as needed, in meetings and attending and presenting at local, state and national workshops and conferences.
-Serves on various University committees.
-Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

-A bachelor's degree and ten years experience in higher education, college student development or related field OR a master's degree in higher education, college student development, or a related field with five years of progressively more responsible positions in higher education.
-Coaching/Advising/Counseling experience in Higher Education.
-Ability to lead a student centered, diverse, dynamic, time sensitive, and responsive unit and supervise staff.
-Excellent organizational skills.
-Demonstrated ability leveraging data to achieve desired outcomes.
-Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
-Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders and taking initiative.
-Capacity to learn and understand technology/software programs.
-Ability to attend to details and contribute to big picture planning.

Preferred Qualifications

-Understanding of higher education retention theories.
-Facility with interpreting quantitative and qualitative data.
