The Assistant Director of the Office of Equity and Equal Opportunity (OEEO) will support the department's mission of promoting fairness and justice, ensuring that each member of the Miami University community is and feels included and promoting a diverse and welcoming environment that is equally accessible for all who live, learn, work and participate in activities at Miami University.


The Assistant Director, an integral member of the OEEO team, will report directly to the Director of OEEO. This person will support the office's mission by working with the Director and other OEEO staff to compile and review data for Miami's annual Affirmative Action Plan (AAP) for minorities and females and also Miami's annual AAP for veterans and people with disabilities; lead efforts to create and implement action-oriented programs for Miami University's AAPs; attend job fairs in conjunction with the Assistant Director; lead efforts and provide strategies to address areas of underutilization in Miami University's AAPs; perform affirmative action internal audits as required by federal and state government agencies; compile data for and file Miami University's Federal Contractor Veterans' Employment (VETS-100A) Report; follow and track federal regulation changes regarding equal employment opportunity / affirmative action, harassment, discrimination and retaliation; collect and analyze data for OEEO, as requested by the Director and/or other OEEO staff; track employment related movement of faculty and staff; review of hire recommendations, promotion recommendations, recruitment plans, collection of applicant flow data, preparing applicant flow data reports and providing them to hiring departments; meet with search committees for unclassified/administrative searches; assist Assistant Director with harassment and discrimination prevention and response trainings, including Title IX; assist Associate Director with harassment and discrimination investigations, as needed; represent OEEO on various committees and at various meetings; assist Assistant Director to ensure federal and state labor law posters are current and properly posted; and other duties as assigned by the Director of OEEO.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Public Administration, Sociology, or a related field;
At least one (1) year of related experience involving affirmative action/equal employment opportunity, harassment and discrimination investigations, and/or human resources, or any equivalent combination of education and experience;
Knowledge of non-discrimination policies;
Knowledge of software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
Excellent organizational skills;
Excellent communication skills;
Ability to work collaboratively with others and also to work independent of direct supervision;
Ability to complete projects in a timely manner and to manage multiple priorities;
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality; and
Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and/or weekends as needed.

Experience gained during the completion of degree programs may be counted towards these requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with an online applicant tracking system;
Experience with Ellucian Banner higher education software;
Experience implementing an affirmative action plan;
Two (2) or more years of progressive experience in an affirmative action/equal employment opportunity office in a higher education setting;
Experience conducting data analysis and report writing;
Experience with AutoAAPWeb or other affirmative action planning software; and/or
Experience conducting trainings.
