Under the direction of the Coordinator – Speech-to-Text Services, uses TypeWell techniques in classes, assemblies, meetings, assessment tests and appointments in other UVU departments. Records all information spoken for Deaf or Hard of Hearing individuals in order to facilitate communication between all people involved. Maintains security of confidential information obtained via typing assignments. Maintains and adheres to the TypeWell Code of Conduct. Maintains positive public relations with the students, faculty and staff.
Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate’s degree in a closely related field plus one year of experience related to the Summary of Duties or any combination of education and/or experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling three years.
Speech-to-text service provider employee must complete Certified TypeWell Transcriber (Novice Level) training and workshop provided by employer (UVU) prior to first day of employment.
Knowledge of computers and computer applications. Knowledge of ethical behavior.
Skill in listening and English writing skills. Skill in interpersonal and public relations.
Ability to type 60+ words per minute.
Ability to capture meaning from spoken information. Ability to work in a school setting.
Ability to work as part of an educational team. Ability to work independently.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to follow written and verbal procedures and instructions.
Prior to interview, applicants must complete typing test at www.typewell.com (‘For Transcribers’ tab) and submit coordinator’s email address (firstname.lastname@example.org) as sponsor. Minimum typing score of 60 words per minute required.
