Detailed Job Description

The Purchasing Agent is responsible for researching resources and for the acquisition of commodities through formal solicitation processes and the informal quote process. The Purchasing Agent provides support to the Director of Purchasing and Contracting under limited supervision. This includes assisting with developing specifications, disposal of surplus College property and equipment, creating and issuing formal solicitation documents, processing requisitions and purchase orders.  

Required Qualifications

Associate's Degree in Business or related field. Knowledge of intermediate level of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook. Basic knowledge of electronic enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work accurately and independently, with minimal supervision, in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with special attention to accuracy, and details. Ability to deal effectively, tactfully and courteously with internal and external customers. Strong customer service skills. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Valid motor vehicle operator's license. Basic knowledge of local, State and Federal procurement laws.  

Preferred Qualifications

College-level coursework in business and computer technology and knowledge of public sector procurement law. Public sector Certified Professional Public Buyer (CPPB) certification or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM). Knowledge of Annotated Code of Maryland procedures as it relates to contracting and procurement. A minimum of three years of higher education or government purchasing experience.
