The Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Metropolitan State College of Denver invites applications for one non-tenure track one-year temporary full-time faculty position starting Fall 2012. The successful candidate must have the desire and ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse urban population.

This posting will be used to fill two (2) positions.
 
The successful candidate will: Teach a 4/4 Teaching Load, i.e., 12 credit hours during Fall 2012 and 12 credit hours during the Spring 2013 semester; Ability to teach introductory and advanced courses in Law Enforcement/Policing, Law, and/or Criminology; Advise and be able to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of students from a diverse, non-traditional student population in an urban environment. Ability to provide service to the improvement of the welfare of the College at any level, and typically unpaid public service to the community or professional organizations which benefits the College.
 

Required Qualifications

Minimum education/work experience includes one of the following: ABD plus four years, JD plus four years, or PhD plus four years experience.
 

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications include the following: 1) Earned Doctorate in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or Sociology (with specialization in Criminal Justice or Criminology or a closely related/relevant field);
2.) Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups; and 3.) Ability to teach or fill the preferred qualifications in ONE (1) of the three areas listed below:

*Law Enforcement/Policing Position: 1) Ability to teach introductory and advanced courses in law enforcement and other criminal justice courses related to the field and 2) Criminal justice work experience including managerial experience in law enforcement at the local, state or federal level.

*Law Position: 1) Ability to teach introductory and advanced courses in criminal law and other criminal justice courses related to the field and 2) Criminal justice work experience, especially managerial experience in judicial processes at the local, state or federal level.
-- OR
*Criminologist Position: 1) Ability to teach introductory and advanced courses in introduction to criminal justice, juvenile delinquency, criminological theory, research methods and other criminal justice courses related to the field and 2) Criminal justice work experience, especially managerial experience in corrections, probation, parole, or community corrections at the local, state or federal level.


Applicable to the above positions as a preferred qualification: 1) Ability to work effectively with a diverse student body and faculty, especially ethnic minorities; 2) Demonstrated community engagement experience, e.g., outreach to K-12 schools, community partnerships, service learning, community engagement in courses; 3) Excellent written and oral skills; and 4) Ability to apply current computer and other technologies in the classroom.
