Teaches illustration courses in traditional and digital painting media. The position is a one-year lecturer appointment. The successful candidate will motivate students to excel and create compelling illustration work in a variety of genres, and maintain an active level of creating and exhibiting work on a regional or national level.
Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with a doctorate degree in a related field to the coursework being taught or master’s degree plus two years of experience in a related discipline. Demonstrated successful teaching at the college or university level is required.
Graduation from an accredited institution with an MFA degree or any combination of education and professional experience totaling 10 years.
Knowledge of the business of illustration in the digital age and how to aid students in their pursuit of various career options.
Skill in using traditional and digital painting media and processes.
Skill in designing successful compositions relative to color usage, eye movement, emphasis hierarchy, value pattern and etc.
Ability to motivates students to excel and create compelling illustration work in a variety of styles.
Ability to critique student work in a positive and encouraging way that inspires higher achievement in their own work.
Ability to intelligently communicate thoughts and ideas about design, light, color, technique and content relative to illustration fields and styles.
An individual who meets at least one of the following criteria may apply for this position as an in-house applicant:
-Adjunct faculty status for at least two full semesters immediately prior to the position’s opening date, OR
-Non-Student Part-time hourly employee hired through the official University screening process, or informal hiring process employed a minimum of 12 consecutive months, working at least an average of 20 hours per week, immediately prior to the position’s opening date, OR
-Salaried employee employed a minimum of 6 consecutive months, working at least an average of 40 hours per week, immediately prior to the position’s opening date.
