Job Overview:

Drexel University, one of the premier metropolitan private research universities in the nation, seeks an innovative research scientist, educator, and administrator to serve as Chemistry Department Head starting September 2015.


Successful applicants will hold a Ph.D. in Chemistry or closely related discipline, and currently hold the rank of Professor. 

The ideal candidate will have:

  5. A commitment to interdisciplinary research.

 Essential Functions:

The Department Head will have the vision to advance the department's undergraduate and graduate programs, its extramural funding, and its role as a key research entity in the University. The successful candidate will be a dynamic leader capable of guiding the department through a time of substantial change and growth, including expansion of the faculty body in areas related to materials- and bio-oriented chemistry; major renovations of facilities; and transformation into a Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, offering degree programs and research opportunities in both areas.

The Department offers both undergraduate and graduate degree programs and serves a diverse student body. Currently, it has 11 tenured or tenure-track faculty with research interests in analytical, atmospheric, bioinorganic, biophysical, computational, materials, organic, and polymer chemistry, along with 7 full-time teaching faculty members, a Ph.D. program with 34 students and a vibrant undergraduate major.

The department has multiple instrumentation facilities that serve the needs of undergraduate teaching and research groups: 300 and 500 Mhz Varian NMR spectrometers, an atomic force microscope, a mass spectrometry facility, an instrumentation laboratory with gas chromatographs (GCs), high performance liquid chromatographs (HPLCs), Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer (IRs), atomic absorption spectrometers, UV-visible spectrophotometers, a fluorimeter, electro analytical instrumentation, an X-band EPR spectrometer, and a teaching laboratory for computational chemistry.
