Detailed Job Description

Designs, prepares, and teaches upper and lower division courses in Autism and Education. Delivers content in a meaningful and engaging method with measurable course objectives. Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms through demonstration, discussion, experiential learning, and visual aids. Evaluates instruction and learning by means of written, verbal, practical, and performance tests. Maintains a student-oriented approach to education. Advises students during office hours or at other times as needed. Some course prep required.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with a doctorate degree in a related field to the coursework being taught or master’s degree plus two years of experience in a related discipline. Demonstrated successful teaching at the college or university level is required.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD in Education, Special Education, Psychology, or related field
Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), preferred
Experience with adolescents and adults, preferred

Knowledge

Experience using multimedia software and hardware in a classroom environment
Awareness and understanding of National Autism Standards and research
Experience with course development pertaining to Autism Spectrum Disorders

Skills

Skill in a multimedia classroom environment
Effective interpersonal, problem solving and decision making skills
Skill in effective instructional strategies and techniques

Abilities

Ability to motivate students
Ability to implement and teach students a wide variety of evidence-based interventions used to treat ASD
Demonstrated ability to teach lower and upper division courses
Able to commit to evening courses on occasion
