PART-TIME EDUCATIONAL AND CAREER ADVISOR (ECA): 18 – 25 hours/week; including-3 evenings (Actual hours per week to be determined) and occasional Saturday hours. Anticipated start date August 2014

The Educational and Career Advisor will provide, coordinate, and document all advising, and provide learners with support services and guidance to assist them in meeting their educational and career goals. Reports to Executive Director.


  • Provide individualized education and career planning and advising for post-secondary education/training and career opportunities.
  • Assist students to identify education and career goals and develop an individualized Education and Career Plan.
  • Record and notify Coordinator of absence or lateness.
  • Use labor market trend information to inform career planning.
  • Document and maintain all advising in a confidential record.
  • Refer to college and community resources to enhance academic supports and address barriers to attendance (e.g. childcare, transportation, disability/health issues, domestic violence, housing, food/fuel assistance, mental health issues, etc.)
  • Collaborate with NECC Enrollment/Academic Counselor.
  • Assist students to identify and set goals; and set a realistic timeline for attaining each goal and a means for determining whether the goals are achieved.
  • Collaborate with teachers to ensure that student goals inform instruction.
  • Monitor student’s progress toward her/his goals while in the program through regular check-ins and meetings, beginning at enrollment.
  • Follow up every quarter to monitor progress toward and achievement of student goals and ensure that the results of goal follow-up are entered into SMARTT or Excel spread sheet (as required).
  • Provide follow up on goal achievement after the student leaves the program using the survey method re: student educational progress and goal achievement.
  • Work collaboratively with the Data Specialist to provide appropriate, student goals information and to report when such goals are met.
  • Collaborate and assist Coordinator with intake, assessment, recruitment.  Attend required staff meetings.

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Counseling (with a focus on Adult Education) or Social Work preferred; Certification in Career Planning Facilitation preferred; Flexible availability to meet students’ schedules; Experience advising, working with and sensitivity to adult learners and/or college students.

Salary: $27.00 per hour, prorated fringe benefits
