Assistant Professor of Chinese (Mandarin)
The Department of Languages and Literatures invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Chinese beginning Fall 2015. We seek a specialist in Chinese language, literature, and culture whose qualifications include a Ph.D. in hand by start date and native or near-native proficiency in Mandarin and English. A specialization and/or advanced training in Second Language Acquisition is considered a plus. Significant experience in language teaching and in effectively addressing diversity in curricula and the classroom is important. The candidate must have a strong commitment to both teaching and scholarly achievement, as well as enthusiasm, innovation, and demonstrated excellence in teaching. The selected candidate will assume the role of director of our Chinese language program, which currently reaches the fourth-semester level. In this capacity he or she will expand the curriculum by developing upper-division courses and integrating interdisciplinary approaches.
