PART-TIME STAFF ASSISTANT/MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR/ EDUCATOR: (Lawrence Campus) (Division of Student Life) 25 hours a week, 40 weeks a year. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required. (MCCC/MTA Unit Position) Anticipated Start Date: August 18, 2014
Reports to Coordinator Counseling Services and then to Dean of Student Life. Provide general counseling services and mental health education to the College community. Specific responsibilities include mental health assessment and referral to local providers for a diverse student body to address personal and social concerns; develop and maintain a provider network to meet students’ needs; provide emergency assessment, crisis intervention, and consultation services. Serve as a member of the College’s Care and Concern Outreach Team to proactively address student issues and needs.
Prepare and deliver outreach and educational programming in mental health and wellness related topics to students, faculty and staff. Make presentations, conduct training and consult with faculty on recognizing and responding to students with mental health related disorders and behaviors. Serve as a resource to the College community on all mental health related issues. Promote and support activities, policies and procedures which enhance mental health throughout the College community. Collaborate with departments across campus to provide a social safety net that addresses students’ personal and social needs. Maintain records in accordance with legal and ethical standards. Participate in committee work, meetings and maintain professional credentials.
Masters degree in counseling, social work, psychology or closely related field and appropriate license in the state of Massachusetts, i.e. Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Professional Counselor (LMHC) required. Five or more years of experience as a mental health provider, preferably in a college setting. Experience providing mental health intake assessment and referral services. Experience delivering mental health/wellness programming for diverse populations preferred. Experience providing emergency and crisis intervention. Experience with multi-cultural populations and socio-economic diversity. Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills required. Ability to function as an effective team member to support all aspects of student success. Clinical skills compatible with a brief treatment model required.
Salary: $29.00 per hour ($29,000.00 annually) with prorated benefit package.
