FULL-TIME ACADEMIC COUNSELOR: ACADEMIC ADVISING CENTER: Primarily stationed at the Lawrence Campus with occasional days at the Haverhill Campus. Monday and Tuesdays 11:00 AM -7:00 PM; Wednesdays and Thursday 10:30am-6:30pm and Fridays, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, and occasional Saturdays. Flexible scheduling is required during busy registration periods. Northern Essex is seeking an experienced advisor (bi-lingual preferred). (MCCC/MTA Unit Position) Anticipated Start Date: August 18, 2014
This position will report to the Dean of Academic Support Services, Articulation and Transfer. The primary role of this position is to provide academic guidance/advising including admission, career and minimal financial aid counseling to students or potential students and will also rotate occasionally to the Haverhill campus. Knowledge of other services available on campus, serving as an advocate for students, as well as orienting and referring students to all other services offered by the college will be fundamental to this position. Provide students with all levels of Academic Advising using a Developmental Model to guide students through the entire process of the advising continuum including transfer advising. Work with all students to prepare and develop Academic and Career Plans using DegreeWorks. Assist with advising ESL students and students transitioning from the ESL Curriculum into academic Programs. This position will also serve as an alternate advisor for the Web Advising component of the college. Assist in advising students in the One Stop Centers through the Admissions process, including Career Planning, Advising and Registration processes. Assist the Dean in facilitating advising training workshops for faculty/staff, and conduct research. Participate in classroom presentations, projects and collaborate with grant-funded staff to implement advising tracking systems for grant participants. Work in collaboration with the various Enrollment Services staff to provide NECC students and visitors with high quality customer service.
Master’s degree in counseling or related field required. Must have a minimum of three years’ experience in a college setting providing academic advising services for students; preferably in a community college setting or the equivalent. Demonstrated understanding and sensitivity to the special concerns and needs of college students in developmental/academic preparation courses. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills required. Must be adaptable and flexible and able to accommodate changes in scheduling during busy advising/registration periods. Must be able to multi-task at a very high level and have a strong commitment and work ethic to this type of work and its environment. Bilingual in (Fluent in Spanish and English) preferred.
Salary: $52,564.00 - $73,639.00 annually with complete fringe benefit package. Actual salary calculated in compliance with MCCC/MTA classification system; Pay grade 5
