Under the direction of the Dean and the chairs of the Departments of Elementary Education and Secondary Education, mentors teacher candidates and provides summary conferencing to guide student success. Completes all required evaluations and School of Education field work or clinical experience forms. Assists teacher candidates to plan and implement instruction appropriate to the teaching assignment. Reports student progress to the School of Education. Develops positive relationships with colleagues and public school educators and administrators to supports collegiality and uphold professional and ethical standards.
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in a field related to the class definition or any combination of education and experience totaling four year
Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with an earned master’s degree in a recognized teacher education field; or graduation from a regionally accredited institution with an earned baccalaureate degree in a recognized teacher education field and three years successful K-12 teaching experience.
Recognition by the accepting school district as an exceptional teacher and mentor.
Ability to provide own transportation to mentoring assignments.
Knowledge of mentoring teacher candidates in the selection, use, and evaluation of appropriate instructional methods and materials.
Knowledge of content and skills required to mentor pre-service teacher candidates.
Skill in mentoring teacher candidates to perform at a high level in a K-12 setting.
Skill in interpersonal communication.
Ability to communicate effectively and provide appropriate and timely feedback and/or input that can be used by teacher candidates and co-operating teachers to guide and inform the teaching experience and promote student success.
Ability to assist teacher candidates and co-operating teachers with questions concerning the and current university and School of Education procedures and policies.
Ability to maintain communication with the School of Education regarding teacher candidate progress.
Ability to develop positive relationships with colleagues and public school educators and administrators.
Ability to supporting collegiality and professional and ethical standards.
