Detailed Job Description

The NASAD accredited Art Department at Metropolitan State College of Denver seeks a tenure track faculty member to teach within the studio foundations program. Individuals with a strong vision for an evolving twenty-first century foundations program are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will demonstrate leadership and innovation in foundations teaching and have experience with establishing community partnerships for project-based learning. Individuals working in technology-based art who have experience teaching emerging digital practices are desirable. The Department offers programs that examine art and design in relationship to contemporary society with specific emphasis on emerging and interdisciplinary practices. The existing Studio Art Foundations Program encompasses Studio Foundations 2D, Studio Foundations 3D, Studio Foundations 4D and Drawing I.
 
Responsibilities include: teaching courses in Studio Foundations and other courses offered by the department as determined by candidate's qualifications; professional development; service to the College and community; and advising students. Other responsibilities include working with committees on curriculum development; developing relationships outside the campus for community-based projects; assisting with the hiring and training of part-time faculty. The successful candidate must have the ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse urban population.
 

Required Qualifications

MFA in Art or closely related field.
 

Preferred Qualifications

MFA plus college level teaching experience beyond graduate teaching assistantship; the ability to integrate emerging technologies into studio foundations and art/design curriculum; professional experience including an active exhibition record; experience advising students in an academic setting; ability to teach and provide curricular direction to interdisciplinary foundations courses.
