The University of La Verne invites applications and nominations for the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The University of La Verne is a Carnegie Doctoral/Comprehensive University in Southern California, enrolling over 8,500 students in four colleges: the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Business and Public Management, the College of Education and Organizational Leadership, and the College of Law. Specific Duties

Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs is the university’s chief academic officer and serves as the executive officer in the absence of the President. Reporting directly to the President, the Provost provides leadership and oversight for all academic programs, and works with the University community to develop and implement a unified academic vision that leads all academic programs to higher levels of excellence. Those reporting to the Provost include: the academic deans of the four colleges, and those who lead various other student and administrative components of the University. The Provost has responsibility for The La Verne Experience, academic budgets, university accreditations and implementing outcomes assessment for all academic programs, implementation of appropriate pedagogies and technologies (face-to-face, hybrid, online), overseeing recruitment, retention, evaluation, promotion and tenure of faculty; and supporting faculty enrichment and development in teaching, scholarship, and solicitation of grants. The Provost will work closely with the faculty and administration to strengthen the environment of collaborative decision making and shared governance. The Provost works closely with the President to expand The La Verne Experience program-wide to further academic excellence as part of the 2020 Vision/Strategic Plan; partner with the Master Plan for the Campus, and support the upcoming Capital Campaign. The Provost is expected to have a visible profile on campus and in the community, and in national higher education environments.

Minimum Qualifications

• Earned doctorate from an accredited institution.
• Eligible for the rank of full professor at the University of La Verne.
• At least five years experience in academic administration at the Dean’s level or higher with a record of increasing responsibility appropriate for a senior-level administrative appointment.
• Demonstrated commitment to academic excellence in university teaching.
• Demonstrated commitment to academic excellence in faculty research.
• Record of successful teaching in higher education and a distinguished record of scholarship and publication.
• Leadership experience at a comprehensive university offering undergraduate and graduate degrees to traditional-aged and adult students.
• Knowledge of trends and issues in higher education including globalization.
• A national reputation in the higher education conversation.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusivity in building a multicultural teaching and learning community, supporting the University’s Strategic Plan for Diversity.
• A strong record of leadership and the proven ability to think strategically, prioritize effectively, and act decisively.
• An effective communicator, collaborator and team builder.
• Experience with fund raising, including major gifts.
• Experience and demonstrated leadership in a shared governance environment.
• Demonstrated commitment to co-curricular activities, civic engagement, and athletics.
• A passionate commitment to the mission of the University, including support for the University’s emphasis on ethical reasoning, diversity and inclusivity, community and civic engagement, and life long learning.
