The Head Men’s and Women’s Water Polo Coach will plan, organize, direct and evaluate all phases of a competitive intercollegiate Men’s and Women’s Water Polo Programs; other duties as assigned by Director of Athletics. To understand the role of Division III athletics in the educational process and to recruit quality student-athletes which reflect and represent the quality of the University of La Verne.
1 Responsible for coaching; recruiting qualified student-athletes; planning, organizing, conducting and supervising regular practice sessions and contests. Annual recruitment goal of 7-10 male and 7-10 female student-athletes.
2 Responsible for monitoring of and accountable for overall budget administration for the Men’s & Women’s Water Polo Programs.
3 Maintain and update the inventory of equipment, uniforms and materials needed to successfully operate the Men’s & Women’s Water Polo Programs.
4 Develop the contest schedule and coordinate all team travel arrangements for the Men’s & Women’s Water Polo Programs.
5 Assign responsibilities to and supervise all work for assistant coach(s) and/or graduate assistant (s).
6 Mentor, counsel and monitor academic progress of student-athletes in the Men’s & Women’s Water Polo Programs.
7 Responsible for compliance of NCAA, SCIAC, and University of La Verne rules and regulations.
8 Develop and maintain positive alumni and community relations.
9 Responsible for fundraising as necessary to supplement the funding of a competitive intercollegiate Men’s & Women’s Water Polo Programs in collaboration with University Advancement, Strategic Communication and the Director of Developement.
10 Assist Athletics Department with fundraising endeavors.
11 Interact with all other college constituencies.
12 Perform other duties, summer duties, special projects and other duties assigned by the Director of Athletics.
13 It is further agreed, that your assignment as a Head Coach may be terminated by the Director of Athletics following a determination that you have failed to comply with the terms and conditions of your employment, or have not performed your assigned duties in a satisfactory manner, and that the compensation which shall then be deemed to be earned by you, pursuant to this contract, shall be on a pro-rata basis. If you are found in violation of NCAA regulations you will be subject to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures, including suspension without pay or termination of employment for significant or repetitive violations. (Bylaw 11.2.1)
The ideal candidate should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with proven recruiting skills and must have a commitment to academic success and student-athlete well being.
This position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree with a strong preference given to those with a Master’s degree. Candidates must have a minimum of three years college coaching experience with demonstrated success and/or at the highest level nationally and/or internationally coaching or playing experience. First Aid and CPR Certifications are desired.
Masters degree preferred.
