Description of Duties:
The Bentley Service-Learning Center (BSLC) is a nationally regarded program, that engages over 100 faculty across disciplines and 1,000 students each year in meaningful, course-based community partnerships. The essential purpose of this position is to develop and coordinate the increasing number of co-curricular programs offered by BSLC. As part of this responsibility, the incumbent will work directly with dozens of BSLC student leaders, and will develop on and off campus relationships with multiple stakeholders from a wide variety of civic engagement based work. The ultimate goal of BSLC is to provide needed service to the community while instilling in students a deepened ethic of social responsibility and understanding of social justice.
Additional Description of Duties: - Work with student leaders and Center Directors to create new and oversee current co-curricular programs in social justice; social innovation; social entrepreneurship; mentoring for social change and youth leadership.
- Expand on current alternative break trip programs; international service-learning programs (ISL); and external nonprofit partnerships.
- Assist in overseeing current and innovating new professional development trainings for BSLC student leaders.
- Help create and implement an internal and external marketing strategy for the Center and serve as a member of the Advisory Board and various subcommittees, participating in all board decisions and meetings.
- Work with the Directors to establish and maintain contacts between BSLC and community.
- Design and run on and off campus service-learning events and special programs.
- Represent BSLC in on and off campus forums, workshops and conferences.
- Work with Directors to design and implement program evaluation; technology advancement; and report generation.
BA or BS and at least 3 years experience creating and implementing related programs; and at least 3 years experience working with community agencies and/or student populations.
Detail oriented, excellent communication skills and ability to design and facilitate training sessions for students involved in service-learning. Sophisticated public presentation skills. Experience with developing and implementing leadership and professional development for students.
Proven ability to work with diverse students and community populations; and to build programs that combine business and civic engagement, such as through social entrepreneurship, and social innovation.
Must be proficient in the use of PC-based computer programs including Microsoft Office, Social Media (blogs, Twitter, Facebook, etc). Must have familiarity with program assessment tools and applications.
Preferred qualifications are:
Experience with international service-learning (ISL); managing staff/students; grant writing; nonprofit work; first year floors; mentoring programs; leadership programs; systems thinker; larger national/international service-learning and civic engagement movement; financial literacy programs; college prep programs; bridging business with civic engagement; social entrepreneurship/social innovation.
