This position is responsible for planning, designing, developing and delivering support services that enhance teaching, instructional design, and effective integration of technology into eLearning instruction. Collaborate with the development team to apply quality standards to design and implementation in a variety of online and classroom learning environments. Collaborate with faculty and other Instructional Designers to implement appropriate tools and teaching strategies to accomplish course objectives. Provide support as faculty members learn to use course management systems, software, and related tools to create and deliver course materials.
This position also supports the development of online, hybrid and blended course materials/templates; keeping current with online issues and pedagogical trends; responding to assigned service request tickets regarding questions related to LMS features and tools, as well as phone and in-person requests; researching and troubleshooting pedagogical course design problems and documenting solutions regarding course design, and course tools. Develop, design, communicate, and research best practices and solutions for instructional design for presentation to the design team and others as required.
Due to the creative nature of this position, independent thinking will be required. This position will have limited decision-making authority, but will work with senior instructional technologists to draw upon experience and industry and accessibility standards to complete assignments and solve technical problems.
50 % – Under the direct supervision of a senior developer, this position performs course development, testing and maintenance for eLearning course content. Identifies learning-related issues such as content sequencing, flow of information and relevancy of media and other technologies.
Under direction of a senior developer, this position will:
Implement complex bodies of information or content using multiple techniques to augment verbal information in clear, creative, fun and effective instruction. Convert course materials into a feasible format for integration into MSU Denver’s Blackboard Learn. Implement appropriate design, navigation, and appearance to ensure a high quality learning experience for both the faculty and the student. This position utilizes HTML, XML, CSS, scripting languages, Adobe Creative Suite, instructional design methodologies, pedagogy, adult learning theory, eLearning education best practices, accessibility (ADA 504 and 508) knowledge, Blackboard Learn and design skills on a daily basis.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills will be utilized on a consistent basis.

25% – Work closely with faculty and staff to provide guidance in the use and implementation of educational technologies in support of teaching, learning, research and accessibility. Primarily, this position will support the development of eLearning courses, learning objects and other materials by working with faculty and the eLearning course development team. In addition to classroom support, this position will detect, discover, expose and acquire information necessary to troubleshoot technical and functional issues related to eLearning materials in Blackboard Learn and environments. This position will respond to tier-1 and 2 help calls related to Blackboard Learn. Furthermore, faculty who walk-in or visit faculty support lab sessions will be regularly assisted by this position.
Perform other customer support duties as required.
15% – Under supervision of a senior developer, this position plans, strategizes and develops training materials in alignment with established guidelines and needs of the department, faculty, staff and students. Furthermore, this position implements and delivers comprehensive end-user training for faculty and staff that pertaining to the use of Blackboard Learn in accordance with college standards and guidelines.

10% – Assist other Educational Technology Center staff with ongoing initiatives (e.g. Blackboard Learn implementations and migrations, software implementations, classroom technologies). Duties may include participating in meetings, performing research, providing opinions, concerns and suggestions.

Candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in educational technology, instructional design, teaching, information technology, informatics, technical communications, instructional technology or a similar field OR currently enrolled in an instructional design and adult learning Master’s program. The candidate should possess at least two years of professional experience working as an instructional designer, Blackboard course developer and technologist in a higher education environment. Ability to implement and advise instructors on the use of varied learning and instructional design theories. At least two years of experience in web design, and developing and implementing ADA 508 and 504 compliant learning materials. At least one year of scripting experience particularly focused on the development of interactive eLearning applications. Functional knowledge of HTML, CSS, XML and scripting languages. At least one year of design experience using the following software: Adobe Creative Suite, Camtasia Studio, Wimba Live Classroom, Blackboard Collaborate and both Blackboard Vista and Learn 9.1. Knowledge of Blackboard Learn from different user perspectives such as faculty, staff, administration and students. Candidate should have experience presenting before groups and conducting training. Proven ability to manage and meet deadlines with multiple projects concurrently. At least two years experience providing customer support in a higher education environment.
