Detailed Job Description

The Department of Health Professions at the Metropolitan State College of Denver is seeking applicants for a Tenure Track Faculty position in the Recreation Professions program starting fall 2012. The candidate will be an integral member of the Recreation Professions (RECR) faculty as well as the Department of Health Professions and will be required to follow those responsibilities outlined in the MSCD Handbook for Professional Personnel.
Teach a minimum of 24 credit hours per academic year and maintain 5 office hours per week to include advising and consultation with students. The successful candidate is expected to teach courses in diverse areas of the recreation field, including therapeutic recreation and recreation management. Participate in program development, assessment, program marketing, and accreditation. Serve on committees at the program, Department, School and College levels, including assisting with the RECR advisory board. Fulfill other duties assigned by the Department Chair. The successful candidate must have the ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse urban population.

Required Qualifications

Doctoral degree or ABD in related field.

Please be aware that if you are hired as an ABD that your doctorate must be completed by the time you apply for tenure or you will be ineligible for tenure.

Preferred Qualifications

One degree at the master's or doctoral level in recreation, therapeutic recreation, parks, recreation facilities management, leisure studies or recreation therapy. Certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist; Certification as a Certified Park and Recreation Professional. Demonstrated record of service to the recreation profession. Two (2) to five (5) years of teaching experience in higher education and experience working in the recreation profession. Knowledge of COAPRT Accreditation standards.
