Under the direction of the Director of Admissions and Outreach, this position is the functional lead and office expert on all transfer student functions for the University. The position leads, supervises and trains Transfer Services staff on outreach and strategic enrollment activities. This position is responsible for transfer admissions, including evaluation of previous college credit, as well as providing services to transfer students to ensure a smooth transition from their previous institutions and to assist them in resolving any transfer related issues. Coordinates a network of cooperative services to ensure a student-centered response to transfer students and to eliminate unnecessary barriers to the transfer process as well as to serve as a resource to academic departments in implementing approved transfer articulation agreements. Acquires and maintains necessary resources for operations of the Transfer Services Office and makes appropriate budget requests and determinations. Also responsible for developing an academic planning process to ensure transfer students are provided adequate information for pursuit of their educational goals. Responsible for developing and continuing relationship building with advisors at local and regional community colleges. Creates and edits transfer student related publications, recruitment materials, webpages, letters, emails, etc.
40% – Manages budget for Transfer Services Office, including allocating resources and monitoring expenses. Leads, supervises and trains Transfer Services staff in all transfer related functions and serves as a resource to all enrollment and academic departments on transfer related concerns. Uses extensive knowledge of the academic, social, and financial supports needed for the success of transfer students, as well as strategic enrollment management to execute all academic and administrative duties, including budget requests, office planning, staff training and program reporting in strategic enrollment initiatives.
25% – Maintains an extensive knowledge base of course equivalency, transfer articulation, and regional accreditation to create effective communication with MSU Denver academic personnel regarding transfer policy and articulation concerns. Uses knowledge of best practices in recruiting and retaining a diverse student body, and strategic enrollment management to make recommendations based on professional judgment on the development and implementation of transfer student outreach programs/initiatives to assist in recruiting and retaining transfer students and meeting University strategic enrollment goals.
20% – Maintains a regular visitation schedule and develops strong relationships with academic advising centers for recruitment and advising purposes at community colleges. Provides transfer admissions counseling and academic planning advice to prospective transfer students and exercises professional judgment to make appropriate referrals to Academic Advising and/or appropriate major department. Advises prospective transfer students about admission procedures, transfer of credit, University policies, next steps, financial aid process, scholarships, program requirements, registration, tuition classification, and available student support services. Assist transfer students regarding the admissions/application and enrollment process and follows up regularly via phone, email, etc. Facilitates application, transcript evaluation and admission of transfer students by working closely with a variety of MSU Denver student academic departments. Maintains close contact and coordination with a variety of MSU Denver student support services programs to facilitate enrollment of transfer students.
10% – Creates, edits, and maintains transfer student related publications, recruitment materials, webpages, letters, emails, etc.
5% – Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university and a minimum of three years of experience in admissions or academic advising in a higher education setting as well as a minimum of three years of experience supervising professional staff. Knowledge of course equivalency, transfer articulation, and regional accreditation as it relates to transfer of college credit. Knowledge of research based best practices in the recruitment and retention of a diverse student body and demonstrated experience working with diverse populations. Experience with and knowledge of strategic enrollment management for use in data analysis for planning enrollment initiatives. Experience with office budget management. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience with Microsoft Office, a student information system, and a CRM system.
Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Minimum of five years of experience in admissions or academic advising in a higher education setting as well as a minimum of five years of experience supervising professional staff. Extensive knowledge of course equivalency, transfer articulation, and regional accreditation as it relates to transfer of college credit. Extensive knowledge of research based best practices in the recruitment and retention of a diverse student body and demonstrated experience working with diverse populations. Extensive experience with and knowledge of strategic enrollment management for use in data analysis for planning enrollment initiatives. Extensive experience with Microsoft Office, a student information system, and a CRM system.
