HEALTH COMMUNICATION AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SAN DIEGO
The University of San Diego, an independent Catholic institution, invites applicants for a tenure track, Assistant Professor position beginning in the Fall of 2015. Candidates must have a strong background in the field of health communication. We interpret health communication broadly and welcome candidates who have a secondary interest within the context of (but not limited to) interpersonal communication, aging, cultural and organizational practices, technology and media, risk communication, and health campaigns. The ideal candidate will be able to apply communication theory to health practices and enable the application of human and mediated communication to health care and health promotion.
The Department of Communication Studies is committed to faculty members who are innovative in their pedagogical and research approaches to investigating communication. Our faculty represents the breadth of the discipline. We seek candidates who have respect and a commitment for diverse methodological approaches to studying the process of communication and who can contribute to the diversity of USD through their teaching, research, and service. The preferred candidate will have a completed Ph.D. at the time of appointment, university-level teaching experience, and demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching. Candidates are also expected to have a strong research agenda, participate in University service, and advise undergraduates. Applicants should be able to teach a range of classes, including upper division communication theory as well as develop courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. Final candidates will complete a pre-employment background check.
