EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT INTERIM APPOINTMENTS

Range 24, $13,457.62 – $18,980.89 per month based upon the current Executive Management Salary Schedule. Initial salary placement is typically between Steps A ($13,457.62) and Step C ($14,662.14) with six (6) years of verifiable, directly related experience. This is a designated educational management position and is FLSA Exempt (does not accrue overtime). The incumbent will follow the terms of the Management Employees Handbook for Interim Appointments (Chapter III, Section 5). Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code §87815, any adjustment will be made on the first pay period. Current SDCCD employees and retirees will be placed as specified in the Management Employees Handbook. Health Benefits will be provided for the term of the contract.

Applications are being accepted for the interim appointment of Continuing Education President. This interim appointment will begin August 1, 2014 and may continue for a maximum of one year (through July 31, 2015) while a formal search is in progress to fill the position on a permanent basis. The incumbent reports directly to the Chancellor and is responsible for overseeing the administration of Continuing Education.

The Continuing Education President serves as the chief executive officer and administrator of Continuing Education. The President reports to the Chancellor and also serves as a member of the Chancellor’s Cabinet.

The President directs the development, administration and evaluation of instructional offerings, curriculum, co-curricular activities, staffing, and student services; directs, reviews, and recommends changes to campus facilities, including construction, repair and maintenance; oversees the development and submission of the Continuing Education budget for Board approval; directs operations within the provisions of the approved budget; implements equal opportunity programs and hiring policies; and builds community relationships and partnerships in a shared governance environment.


Major Responsibilities
    •    Administering and providing leadership in the day-to-day operations of the Continuing Education Program.
    •    Implementing and administering Board Policies, federal and state laws, Board of Governor’s regulations and the Continuing Education Master Plan.
           •    Advocating and supporting legislation to benefit both the District and non-credit programs.
    •    Participating in Continuing Education planning and articulating instructional needs at the local and state levels.
    •    Building community relationships, developing industry partnerships and generating resources from the community.
    •    Communicating and advocating the Continuing Education mission and programs to the Board, Chancellor’s Cabinet and the community.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

In compliance with policies adopted by the Board of Trustees, applicants for this position must show evidence of the following minimum qualifications:

    1.    Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution (doctorate preferred); AND,
    2.    One (1) year of formal training, internship,or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator’s assignment.
-OR-
    1.    Possession of a lifetime California Community College Chief Administrative Officer Credential; AND,
    2.    Two (2) years of recent management experience in an institution of higher education.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

    •    Background in higher education or continuing education administration, teaching and collaborative management.
    •    Experience in fiscal management, including budget planning, development and monitoring.
    •    Understanding of and familiarity with the administration and daily operations of a large, complex non-credit continuing education program.
    •    Understanding of and commitment to shared governance.
    •    Understanding of and commitment to information technology, i.e., distance learning courses and emerging technologies.
    •    Experience building effective community and business relations and partnerships.
           •    Experience in fundraising and institutional development.
           •    Experience with program and personnel evaluation.
           •    Knowledge of legislative processes, including effective advocacy.
           •    Familiarity of and commitment to the collective bargaining process.
           •    Commitment and sensitivity to diversity in the structure of curriculum and programs that reflect the community served.
           •    Supervision of management staff in a collaborative environment.

Desired Qualifications
    ◦    Increasingly responsible senior leadership experience in higher education administration and/or adult education administration, including instructional programs, student services, personnel management, accreditation, and knowledge of current relevant legislation.
    ◦    A doctorate or advanced degree.
