Position Summary:
Independently undertakes or collaborates in the planning, development, and implementation of a laboratory, clinical, and/or field research study of an advanced nature requiring mastery of a line of research that is unique and/or in particularly high demand within an area of health sciences. Provides leadership in the design and execution of pioneering research methods, protocols, and procedures, which constitute a principal component of an integrated research program. Provides technical consultation to research faculty and others in the interpretation and summation of data, and in the development of reports, presentations, and manuscripts associated with research findings. May serve as an adjunct member of faculty as appropriate.

This position will also:

  • Organize, lead, and perform experiments (M. tuberculosis aerosol infection model) in ABSL and collect and analyze data from the mouse TB model
  • Carry out immunological and histopathological studies and analyze data
  • Culture and prepare infectious units of virulent M. tuberculosis in BSL facility
  • Develop, implement, and maintain biosafety compliance protocols for ABSL3 and BSL3 work related to the work above
  • Carry out macrophage culture and M. tuberculosis infection , survival, cytokine and cell biological parameters ex vivo
  • Organize and maintain transgenic breeding pairs and mice involved in the ABSL3 experiments
  • Play a major leadership role in the laboratory, laboratory meetings, discuss and collaborate on projects by others in the laboratory, mentor as necessary
  • Prepare data for publication
  • Assist the PI in preparing data for grant applications and papers.
  • Train other members of the laboratory in BSL3 and ABSL3 work with TB and mouse models.

Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree with at least 5 years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.


Doctorate degree with at least 1 year experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified; .

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D or M.D.
  • More than 3 years of experience with ABSL3 work
    *Knowledge (as evidenced by publications) of autophagy in defense against infectious agents
  • Demonstrated experience with virulent TB and mouse models of TB
  • Have experience with aerosol delivery of infectious agents to mouse lungs
  • Have experience with histological , bacteriological, and immunological follow-up analyses in a TB infection model
  • Is or can be BSL3 and ABSL3 certified and carry out work in ABSL3 and BSL facilities
  • Be able to develop and implement biosafety protocols in ABSL3 and BSL3 facilities
  • Have demonstrated ability (publication record) to collect, analyze and present data for publications
  • Be able to provide training to others in BSL3 and ABSL3 work with the TB model and general procedures
