Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit institution dedicated to student learning, research, healthcare, and service is seeking applicants for an Assistant/Associate Professor, full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track appointment in the Edward and Margaret Doisy College of Health Sciences Department of Clinical (Biomedical) Laboratory Science. Rank and salary are commensurate with education and experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include teaching, involvement in scholarly activities, serving as Director of Laboratory Services (coordinating external lab testing services) and participation in service to the university and community. Primary teaching responsibilities include courses in medical chemistry, analytical chemistry laboratory, oversight of clinical chemistry internship courses, urinalysis, and additional teaching duties as assigned. Other duties may include student mentoring, participation in student recruitment and retention, marketing of the program, and program review. All faculty are expected to be engaged in student learning, the development of the whole person, and preparation of the students as competent professionals and effective leaders. To this end, the applicant is expected to serve as a role-model for leadership and maintain active involvement in professional organizations.
QUALIFICATIONS: All candidates must possess a doctorate or master degree; a clinical laboratory-based undergraduate degree or certificate; national certification as a laboratory professional; two years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting; and two years of experience in the classroom. Each of the following qualifications will strengthen the candidate's application to include: specialty certification in clinical chemistry; at least five years of clinical laboratory science work experience; five years of teaching experience in a clinical laboratory science program; a working knowledge of accreditation and certification processes; and demonstrated scholarship. The position requires excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills that complement organizational and problem-solving skills. The preferred area of expertise is medical chemistry, however, qualified applicants with expertise in other clinical laboratory science disciplines that complement existing faculty strengths and meet program needs will also be considered. The department offers a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science, a Bachelor of Science in Investigative and Medical Sciences, a Bachelor of Science in Cytotechnology, and post baccalaureate certificate programs in Clinical Laboratory Science and Cytotechnology.
