DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING CAREER DEVELOPMENT

 

SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING AND APPLIED SCIENCE

 

The University of Virginia (UVA) seeks nominations and applications for a dynamic leader to fill the position of Director of Engineering Career Development at the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS). Under the direction of the Senior Associate Dean and consistent with the mission of the School, the Director manages all facets of career development by providing strategic and tactical leadership and direction to the SEAS career development team and all affiliate staff assigned to the career development function.

 

This position has primary oversight of the operations of Engineering Career Development within SEAS, including managing individual career counseling, implementing graduate and professional school fairs, and designing seminars, workshops, and programs that assist students in the exploration and development of their future career plans. In addition, the Director is responsible for representing SEAS on matters involving career development within the University community and to external stakeholders. This position will maintain and nurture existing relationships, as well as develop new relationships, with a significant base of employers – local, regional, national and international – who have an interest in recruiting and hiring UVA SEAS students and alumni for career-related internships and full-time positions.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree preferred in engineering, student affairs, human resources or related business/engineering field.
  • Minimum 8 to 10 years of progressively responsible experience in a university career services, human resources, engineering, or business development setting.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with multiple constituencies.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills; excellent presentation and analytical skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; ability to develop strong relationships with employers, alumni, and faculty.
  • Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, organizational and strategic planning experience.
  • Ability to develop and manage budgets, and direct multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated program development and events coordination experience.
  • Proficient computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint); prior experience with web-based career resources (including social networking sites) and career services management software/technology (NACELink/Symplicity) desired.
  • Willingness to travel 40% of the time.
