GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Under general direction of the Director of Educational Support, the Coordinator of Disability Services provides coordination of the reasonable accommodations necessary to ensure that students with disabilities have equal access to GCC programs, activities, and services. Performs administrative, instructional, and communications work. Responsible for developing a network of academic support services & resources for students with disabilities, ensuring institutional compliance with the provisions of the ADA Amendment Act of 2008, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 coordinating appropriate accommodations for students with disabilities, promoting disability awareness, coordinating grant programs, and assisting in the development of curriculum and workshops. Also responsible for coordination of contracted employees and assigned staff. Performs related work as directed.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinates program activities for the Office of Disability Services and develops a comprehensive network of academic support services, including alternative learning and testing methodologies.
Interprets relevant court/government agency rulings and interpretations affecting services for students with disabilities
Provides services directly to students or acts on behalf of students with members of the campus community
Provides education and conducts classes/workshops for college students, faculty and staff to promote disability awareness and understanding of universal design for learning.
Coordinates institutional compliance with provisions of ADA Amendment Act of 2008 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
Oversees assistive technology resources and services, provides training & support to students, faculty, & staff regarding assistive technology.
Coordinates development and provision of services of federally funded grants.
Performs administrative tasks associated with department activities.
Consults with other departments regarding the needs of students and with state, local, or community resources.
Collaborates with physical plant to ensure accessibility to campus facilities as needed.
Coordinates work of any temporary and individual contractors/consultants.
Instructs assigned personnel in performance of duties according to established standards.

RANK AND SALARY: Grade 6. Salary range is $57,330 - $69,047. The appointment salary is based on one’s education and experience as dictated in the collective bargaining agreement classification compensation structure. Candidates are therefore advised that it is unlikely the offered salary will be at or near the top of the range
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: One-year, fully benefited position runs from May 2014 through May 2015
